Hartley can be an unforgiving venue at the best of times and on a freezing cold night in early April it's even more difficult to appreciate the finer points of the place, especially when the gas heaters kindly put out for us were being hogged by the spectators!
It's also not the ideal first away fixture of the new season, even less so when it's your baptism into the cut and thrust of the Kent League as Phil was to find out. The unavailability of both Hardy brothers meant that CTH and Sarah Martin were drafted in as replacements and while they fought valiantly a certain lack of match practice was evident, both from them and also from the rest of the team. But no excuses, we were well beaten by a team that will be at the top of the division even if the scoreline doesn't quite reflect how we played.
