From Phil
Although the conditions were fairly benign, the Natives' outing to the Railway Inn at Sole Street on Wednesday was something of a wash-out. Lovely pub, playable piste, affable opponents; all components present and correct for a pleasant evening.
And so it was; with the single, rather important, exception that we left most of our choicest shots in the locker and produced instead a collection of rather crummy junk.
There were a few flashes of excellence and these bright sparks should not be forgotten amidst the general gloom but, on the whole, the Railway were superior in every game and the Natives lost them all, with no team managing to reach double figures. However, while this was a grim reminder of the standard of petanque played by some of the teams in the second division of the Kent League, morale among the Natives remained high and good humour prevailed in the face of adversity, as it always should. And Alan's attempt to cheer us up by taking the scenic route back to Whitstable, via the Woolwich Ferry, was much appreciated by all.
In view of the shortness of this report you might like to beguile your time by watching the little gem of good cheer below. Grateful credit goes to Patrick Casey for finding it.
